Calcium Carbonate and Calcined Kaolin for Paper Coatings
If you make paper coating colour, the mineral must work from slurry preparation through coating and printing.
Relia's calcium carbonate and calcined-kaolin candidates can be compared for that application.

A Factory Proposal for Your Application
Relia manufactures calcium carbonate and calcined-kaolin materials in China through its own factories.
Our paper-coating enquiry should describe the coating method, binder and the sheet result you require. Tell Relia the current pigments and the process limits for rheology and application. The candidate proposal should retain the carbonate or calcined-kaolin identity and its relevant data before the coating comparison starts.

The Coating-Pigment Brief
Paper surface coating needs a comparison of the applied layer, not only the wet-end filler catalogue. XM-C102 PCC, XM-CK80 calcined kaolin and XM-CK25 kaolin provide distinct mineral proposals. We organise them around coating solids, binder, rheology, finishing and the print surface you want to buy.

Surface-Coating Minerals for Paper
| Review area | Listed data and acceptance basis | Use in your selection |
|---|---|---|
| XM-C102 · 5895 | A 98%-designated PCC entry. Request particle distribution and coating-relevant wetting and rheology information. | Use the same particle measurement basis, then review dispersion and the result in your process. |
| XM-CK80 · 5963 | Al2O3 is listed 45%, SiO2 50±2% and moisture 0.08%. Confirm the actual offered grade's analysis. | Identify exactly what the percentage measures before normalising quotations or dosage. |
| XM-CK25 · 5941 | The catalogue includes a 300–6000 mesh designation. Choose a specific grade rather than treat the range as one distribution. | Use the same particle measurement basis, then review dispersion and the result in your process. |
| Applied layer | Agree base paper, coating solids, binder, coat weight, finishing and the required print or surface acceptance. | Use this item to define the candidate and the evidence needed for your application. |
Relevant Grades for Your Shortlist
Use these listed candidates to start a grade-specific discussion with us.
Slurry to Printed Sheet
Compare the proposed minerals at a defined coat weight on the intended base sheet. Record coating rheology, application behaviour and the finished print surface. Retain calendering or other finishing conditions with the result because they can change the appearance your buyer eventually receives.

Wet-end evidence
Does not qualify surface coating.
Slurry only
Does not establish print quality.
Finishing changes
Need a relevant comparison.
Carbonate Classification and Kaolin Calcination
Carbonate classification changes the distribution entering the coating colour, while calcination changes kaolin's structure rather than merely its moisture. Slurry preparation then determines the dispersion presented to the coater. Connect the material route with measured rheology and sheet results, keeping coat weight and finishing conditions consistent across the comparison.
Define each pigment
Identify the carbonate and the calcined-kaolin proposals separately.
Prepare the carbonate
The particle distribution and surface condition follow the selected carbonate grade.
Thermally change the clay
Calcination changes kaolin's structure; it is more than removal of incidental moisture.
Connect to coating preparation
The resulting powders need a matched slurry, application and sheet comparison.
- Particles
- Retain the actual distributions and their methods.
- Structure
- Identify the clay form rather than infer a calcined material from colour alone.
- Coating
- Keep rheology, coat weight, finishing and print conditions with the evaluation.
A Grade and Process Reference
The accepted pigment package belongs with the coating recipe reference and test conditions. We discuss supply against that scope. Changes in binder, coat weight or calendering should remain visible when a grade is reviewed again.

Choose the Next Useful Guide
If you buy mineral filler for paper, select against the furnish, ash target and strength or optical limits at the wet end.
If you source kaolin for a white ceramic body or glaze, the firing result matters more than the raw powder colour.
If you want to use TiO2 more efficiently in white paint, an extender is a trial variable rather than a direct replacement for hiding pigment.
